If you’re looking to add a new pair of affordable designer sunnies to your collection, here we take a look at some key things that you need to keep in mind to ensure you get the best value for money possible – read on to find out more!

Research what style and brand fits your budget best

Buying a pair of designer sun glasses is definitely an investment, so you want to make sure you make the right decision! This means asking yourself what occasion you will wear them (Sunbathing? driving? Out and about?), what shape suits you best (Oversize? Aviator? Cat eye?) and what look you’re going for too (Chic? Classic? Trendy?) in order to ensure you pick the right pair of designer sunnies for you.

In addition, if you have a particular designer sunglasses brand in mind, it’s also worth taking time to browse online and research what kind of price you can expect to pay for them. For example, high end fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana and Prada are likely to be at the top end of your budget, however if a big brand name is important to you, then we recommend you stick with what you know and like to ensure you get as much use of out of your new designer sunnies purchase as possible!

Be careful when buying from websites like eBay

While you might be able to find the odd genuine pair of designer sunglasses on websites like eBay, the unfortunate truth is that more often than not they will be fake imitation versions instead. It’s always important to do your research before buying a pair of cheap designer sunglasses in order to spot fake sunglasses – you want to ensure you’re getting the genuine article and double check whether that super cheap price is too good to be true or not.

If you do decide to buy a pair of designer sunglasses online, it’s really important to check the following first to ensure they are the real deal:

  • Always look for a mention of a model number within the description of the sunglasses. If one isn’t there, alarm bells should ring, and if there is then you should always search for it on the designer brand’s website to double check its authenticity
  • Familiarise yourself with the models on the designer brand’s website to get a feel for how and when they use logos and labels – again, double check these against the cheaper version you have found.
  • Look for a photo that shows the packaging that the designer sunnies will come in – does it look good quality and is the logo spelled correctly?

Don’t always buy straight from the brand’s own website

Although you can be 100% sure you’re buying the genuine article from the designer brand’s own website, you might be missing out on some special discounts that only an authorised dealer can offer. Plus, by buying from a retailer such as DesignerSunnies.com, you can be rest assured that not only are you getting a new pair of designer sunnies for a great price, they will also be completely authentic too and also carry the same manufacturer’s warranty that you’d get if you bought straight from the brand itself!

From brand new models to all time classics, all at fantastic prices, you will find your perfect pair of designer sunglasses at DesignerSunnies.com. Plus, UK customers benefit from free standard shipping and returns too – what could be better than that?!

With the addition of brand new Valentino sunglasses on our website, we are looking back at Valentino as a brand. Valentino was founded in 1960 by Valentino Garavani and is part of the Valentino Fashion Group. It is headquartered in Milan, and its creative direction is in Rome. And for Valentino Garavani, fashion has always been a passion. As he said: “Even as a young boy, my passion was to design, and I have been very lucky to be able to do what I have loved all my life. There can be few greater gifts than that”. So let’s look back at the iconic Valentino brand.

Looking back at the history of the Valentino brand

Born in Lombardy in Italy, Valentino moved to Paris when he was only 17 years old to study at the École des Beaux-Arts and at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. He then found an apprenticeship with Jean Dessès and joined Guy Laroche for two years. Valentino then decided to return to Italy and set up in Rome in 1959.

And in 1960, Garavani opened a fashion house on Via Condotti in Rome with the backing of his father and his father’s associate. Resembling a “maison de couture”, the brand also became famous for its red dresses, soon known in the fashion industry as “Valentino red”. They even founded a line: RED Valentino (standing for Romantic Eccentric Dress) and representing the iconic colour. The real international debut took place in 1962 in Florence.

A little bit more about Valentino sunglasses

Associated with glamour, exclusivity and style, the Valentino sunglasses are a classic in fashion. They provide harmony of contrasts, profound features, expressions of femininity and iconic elements. The brand also specialised in designing wedding dresses and got famous in contact with personalities. Indeed, they designed wedding dresses for Elizabeth Taylor, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lopez, Courtney Cox, Sophie Hunter and Princess Madeleine of Sweden.

Regarding Valentino sunglasses, we would recommend looking at the new collection in order to find the perfect pair for you. We particularly recommend the VA2009 3004E6 sunglasses for their trendy, original and feminine design. With their brand new collection in 2017, Valentino will certainly keep on surprising you. So visit DesignerSunnies.com today and grab your own pair of Valentino sunglasses.

A little bit more about Valentino sunglasses

Summer has just arrived and we are proud to say that we are welcoming to our website a fantastic new brand: Dolce & Gabbana. Having added two equally well-known Italian brands earlier this year (Prada and Bvlgari), we feel that the addition of Dolce and Gabbana will compliment our list of Italian brands perfectly and be a great option for summer sunglasses. And it is also a great occasion for us to look back at the past of such a famous brand. Because, as Stefano Gabbana once said: “Italians know that what matters is style, not fashion. Italian style does not have social or age boundaries”.

Some History On Dolce & Gabbana

Created in in 1985 in Milan by Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, Dolce & Gabbana is a luxury Italian brand renowned worldwide. But it wasn’t always the case. The two designers met in in 1980 in Milan while working in the same fashion house. In 1985, they presented their first women’s collection in Milan, where they opened their first store a year later. From 1989 onwards, they began designing underwear, swimming costumes, men’s collections and even launched their first perfume. They also started to export their products to Japan and other countries, including the United States.

By the end of the 1990s, the company was already successful. Its revenues were around $500 million then and even reached $633 million in 2003. International recognition was helped a lot by the fact that Madonna wore a Dolce and Gabbana jacket to the premiere of Truth or Dare: In Bed with Madonna at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival. They then partnered with her in 1993 to design over 1500 costumes for “The Girlie” tour. And in 2010 she designed a collection of sunglasses titled MDG. The connection between the singer and the brand then seemed obvious. Madonna even stated:  “Their clothes are sexy with a sense of humor—like me”.

Dolce and Gabbana

Dolce and Gabbana Sunglasses

If one thing is definitely worth noticing, it is the very fast ascension of this iconic brand. Indeed, in less than ten years they turned their small Milanese atelier into an international fashion empire. And they are now famous worldwide, appealing to a lot of people with their rock, trendy and wild and wacky style. They themselves describe their own style as ideal for the young and glamorous trendsetters of the world. And they can also boast having celebrity fans. Among them are Madonna, Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie, Reece Witherspoon and Eva Longoria.

So if you want to grab your own pair of Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses, visit DesignerSunnies today and check out all of our models, such as these DG4237 31278G sunglasses. With their feminine floral print and trendy Cat Eye frame, they will be a perfect accessory for the summer.

Dolce and Gabbana Sunglasses

Founded in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti, Persol is an Italian luxury eyewear brand, specialised in sunglasses and optical frames. The name comes from the Italian expression per il sole, meaning “For the sun”. Originally producing glasses for pilots and sports drivers, it is now famous for its durable sports sunglasses. Given the anniversary of 100 years of Persol, we decided to look at the history of the brand. And Persol History is definitely an interesting one.

The brand has evolved a lot since its creation in 1917 in Turin when Ratti, a photographer and owner of Berry Opticians, began the adventure in a small courtyard. Soon adopted by the Armed Forces and by air forces around the world, the first Protector glasses were already boasting innovation and quality.

Innovation and Technology: On the road to International fame

Persol History then evolved and the brand created its own trademarks: crystal lenses, the Silver Arrow and the Meflecto patent. In the late 1930s, the introduction of the Meflecto system was a great mark of technology and innovation. The first flexible stem, along with a flexible bridge, it created comfortable curve and improved fitting.

The model 649 made Persol even more renowned. Originally created for tram drivers in 1957, it got very successful. Especially when Marcello Mastroianni wore them in the film Divorce Italian Style in 1961. The brand then took part in several expeditions in order to test its lenses in extreme conditions and stay on top of technological innovation. From Siberia to the Himalaya and to the Paris-Dakar race, Persol sunglasses were tested and approved everywhere.

“Persol Sport” emerged in 1990, aiming especially at people involved in sporting activities. In 1994, Persol was in 40 countries around the world. Famous personalities have brought Persol’s fame even higher: sportsmen, businessmen and particularly international cinema celebrities. Only to name a few: Steve McQueen, Greta Garbo and Jean Alesi. More recently, some of the famous brand ambassadors include Leonardo Di Caprio, Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling.

Persol History

Persol History Today

Today Persol is still an iconic brand for sunglasses and keeps evolving. The famous 649 model transformed into the new 9649. Keeping its legendary shape but disclosing thinner and lighter profiles. The collaboration between Persol and the 67th Venice International Film Festival in 2010 proved again the long and lasting relationship between Persol and Cinema.

The 714 model worn by Steve McQueen in The Thomas Crown Affair was relaunched in 2010 in an exclusive edition. Recent appearances of Persol glasses in movies include Jesse Eisenberg in Now You See Me 2, Ryan Gosling in La La Land, Daniel Craig in Casino Royale and Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2. As they write on their own website: “Persol’s long ‘filmography’ began in the 1960s and continues to grow, marking a truly special and magical love story with the movie industry.”

With a fresh new website, the beginning of 2017 also brings two significant new brands. We are getting very Italian this year with the addition of the luxurious and well-known Italian brands, Prada and Bvlgari. Here we take a look at the past and the road to international fame for these two iconic Italian brands.

Leading the Way in Italian Brands

Prada : Leading the Way in Italian Brands

Quite surprisingly, for such a globally iconic brand, Prada has always remained a family business. Created in the capital of fashion, Milan, in 1913 by Mario Prada, it was at the very beginning a store in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It sold trunks, beauty cases and leather bags. Things have changed a lot since then. One big change includes becoming the “Official Supplier to the Italian Royal Household” and the taking over by the women in the family. After Mario Prada, his daughter Luisa Prada succeeded him and her own daughter Miuccia Prada then succeeded her.

In 1977, Miuccia Prada joined forces with an Italian Businessman, Patrizio Bertelli –who later became her husband, to develop the Prada label. In the late 1980s, Prada became international, opening stores in New York, Madrid, London, Paris and Tokyo. Stating the obvious, Prada is being primarily a sunglasses brand. I was not until 2000 that they launched their sunglasses and eyewear collections. Prada then never stopped growing, launching fragrances, phones, exhibitions and films. They can also boast having celebrity fans. Among their biggest fans are Uma Thurman, Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman and Cameron Diaz.

Bvlgari

Even older than Prada, Bvlgari is one of the oldest Italian brands/jewellery houses, founded in 1884 by Sotirio Voulgaris. Being a Greek immigrant to Italy, he originally wanted the name “Bulgari” as a phonetic version of his name. It then became “Bvlgari” in order to reinforce the Greek roots of the company. A family business as well, Bvlgari evolved in the hands of Constantino and Giorgio, Sotirio’s sons. Giorgio’s son Gianni initiated the internationalization of the company in the 1970s, opening shops in New York, Geneva, Monte-Carlo and Paris.

The company then moved to his brothers Nicola and Paolo, before Francesco Trapani, Lia Trapani’s (Sotirio’s granddaughter) son. Today, with 230 retail locations worldwide, and selling handbags, watches, fragrances, hotels and sunglasses, one can say the global brand Bvlgari has made its way in the fashion industry. True to its roots, Bvlgari style features ancient elements of Roman, Greek, and Italian Renaissance. It later introduced Parisian and Art Deco arts. The compact rounded forms of their sunglasses feature generous gems and various colors. Famous Bvlgari fans include Elizabeth Taylor, whose belongings were even put on display as part of the 125 anniversary exhibition.
